The meeting notes for 2nd June 2015 are:

  • Joe Murray had invited Pradeep Nayak, member of JMA consulting to be a part of this meeting to help with CiviCRM.
  • Pradeep Nayak is from Goa Engineering college, has worked with JMA for more than 4 years. He has been instrumental in the development of the Mandrill extension for CiviCRM. He also is the lead developer in the accounting module in CiviCRM. Thank you Pradeep for joining the meeting.
  • Joe Murray walked the team through the steps involved in creating an extension. He explained the mandrill extension for CiviCRM. He recommended using Singleton inheritance for BAO objects to use a single thread to synchronize data in CiviCRM, and the use of design patterns that was implemented for the mandrill app as it is a best practice that is followed in the CiviCRM world.
  • Ashish to map the freeswitch CDR fields with the phone activity form, and make recommendations on any new custom fields to be added.
  • Joe Murray advised Ashish to contact Pradeep Nayak for any help related to building the CiviCRM extension. Pradeep Nayak shared his skype and whatsapp credentials with the team.
  • The team would continue the rest of the items on the agenda, on Thursday (04-Jun-2015)

The student took a full time job starting July 1. Although they were doing fine, and they promised to work evenings and weekends to complete the project, Google staff when asked about this said that the project should be failed as unlikely to succeed. I'm not sure if it is based on their prior experience with students taking jobs (there are lots of suggestions for mentors that this is a problem) or whether it is based on students breaking the commitment made when signing up to be available a certain number of hours per week.

Joe thanks for the update. I know we all wish the student well with his new job, it's an exciting opportunity for him. Unfortunately that job precludes the GSoC project from being completed, so following the advice from the Google folks, failing the student was the only available option.
