well the export is customizable. so if you do a civimember - find members, this uses the same template and will return the results in the same format. but when you go to export, you can either do a primary export or select the fields. i chose 'primary' and it exports pretty much everything including contact info and my custom field. so it appears to work well.

i dont know of any easy way offhand to do this. I'm on and off for the rest of this week. If i get a chance i'll take a look and see if there is some code snippet you can reuse
