Add Group subscription to a Profile?

the Groups documentation says:

GROUPS support both administrative and end-user "subscribe" and "unsubscribe" actions - and a history of these actions is kept in the system

But how on earth do you add a group to a profile so that someone can subscribe or unsubscribe? We have a number of topical mailing lists that we'd like people to be able to add themselves to during registration (via the Drupal registration screen) and editing of their profile (via the Drupal account editing screen) but cannot seem to find any way to do this.

What are we missing?

In your CiviCRM Profile (the one you're including in Drupal registration and Drupal account editing) - add a new Profile Field - select "Contacts" >> "Group(s)".

This will expose a set of checkboxes - one for each Group whose Group Type is Mailing List.

If CiviMail is enabled, the "subscribe process" will use the confirm to opt-in pattern.

Thanks so much! I couldn't find that in the documentation anywhere!

Is it possible that this tiny detail can be added to the documentation? If so, I'm happy to help out with it. This was extremely useful for me.

I see the warning about resurrecting a 30 day + old topic, but this does seem the perfect place to ask...

...is there any way I can make this a radio box option so that people can only select one group?

(I am [relatively] happy to have to do this by themeing or whatever if I know what I have to theme)
