Thank you, Lobo. your advice was exactly what I needed. I was able to accomplish the upgrade from 2.2alpha to 2.2beta. I just might get this demo ready for show in time.

Does anyone know if the intention is to continue this zip within a zip structure going forward? I believe I read something about it being implemented as a work-around due to some timeout condition (?), but the exact reason wasn't clear to me. I personally wish to request it's elimination (if possible) to allow use of the installer where the the php zip option is not available (thus increasing platform compatibility).

Warm Regards,

due to time/resource constraints, i suspect we will support only one install method (the zip within a zip). There will be instructions, so folks can try using the other install method if their php does not hve zip compiled in

4. modify configure.php and comment out the part which unzips the zip file

Then what? Install from directory?

yes

2.2 beta2 will have 2 variations of the joomla component. one will be zip within a zip style, and the other will be the expanded directory as 2.1
