The behavior of this should be the same across both joomla and drupal. If you can replicate this on our sandbox, please file an issue and we'll get it fixed.

We dont give out credentials to the Joomla backend. Sorry

I have narrowed down the circumstances that produce the deleted data error, have reproduced it on the Drupal demo and will post an issue in the tracker...

Ok, all is well with address standardization on version 1.7.  The USPS let me have access to the production servers -- you have to keep emailing until you get the right answer.  Works great.

I didn't want to start a new topic because it seems like there might be some useful stuff in this thread.

I am trying to test the address standardization plug-in and have set up a test account with the USPS. I am using the test data as described in the USPS documentation but have not had a successful hit on their database yet.

My first question: which address is the plug-in using for the lookup or are all addresses used? Does it matter which contact type (Individual, Household)?

In our situation we use only Individual contact types and record an "Abroad" address and a "Voting" address. We want the Voting address to be verified on the USPS database. No matter what combinations I have tried, I still get the message that the address was not found in the USPS database.

Also, anyone reading this. Can you recommend a service that could do batch address scrubbing plus add the zip+4 for little cost? We have about 85,000 records.

the plugin is at the address level and is used for all addresses

your best bet would be to instrument the code at: CRM/Utils/Address/USPS.php

and see what is happening and why

I'm not a developer (at that level of PHP at least) but I'd sure like to know if anyone has been successful with this feature. It seems there have been a lot of postings in this thread by people who have not been successful with the feature. It seems to be very useful and I hope we can get it to work.

I'm convinced it should work but I've only got a test account with USPS and even using the test data mentioned earlier in this thread, I have not yet had success. Any suggestions as to how to debug it? Like I said, I am not a heavy developer and this is outside the scope of our regular developer.

When I applied for a test account, the email returned has a username and a password. In the address standardization area of address settings, there is no place to put a password. Today I also switched from http://testing.shippingapis.com/ShippingAPITest.dll to https://secure.shippingapis.com/ShippingAPITest.dll.

The result now is a message saying that my USPS authorization has failed.

When I switched back to, I continue to get the "address not found" message.l

I have tested with the sample XML in the USPS Development Guide using my username and got a successful result so I suspect there is a problem in the CiviCRM code.

Maybe someone could give me a hint of an easy way to log the output of the API call sent to UPS. Time to get my fingers dirty.

in the above USPS file, add:

CRM_Core_Error::debug( 'varName', $var );

this will output stuff to the screen. Else use

CRM_Core_Error::debug_var(  'varName', $var );

which will add it to the CiviCRM.(32 char string).log

check CRM/Core/Error.php for more details
