yes, check the svn link below to see how i use subtype a bit. I have subtypes for Parent, Staff, Student etc

By the "svn link below" you mean this repository, right? -> http://svn.civicrm.org/sfschool/trunk/

The amount of directories/files is quite big. Can you tell me what precisely I should look at to get the idea? Also, is there a demo site for it where I could see the concept in action?

1. look in the drupal/modules, SFS, templates directories. You will need to have some experience with PHP/Drupal/MySQL/CiviCRM to make sense of the directory structure etc

2. No demo site planned as yet. Its a client consulting project but i think its useful to folks and does quite a bit with hooks and customized templates
