How do I remove apparently duff data

CiviCRM 3.0 alpha.

In my Summary of Case Involvement table I have about 100 case types. The first one is legit as I constructed a test case. I have another proper case type with 3 ongoing against it  but if I navigate to that page I get

status
    No matches found for:
    Case Status = Ongoing ...AND...
Case Type = 1b HEALTH Physical Illness

    Suggestions:

        * if you are searching by client name, check your spelling
        * try a different spelling or use fewer letters
        * if you are searching within a date range, try a wider range of values
        * make sure you have enough privileges in the access control system

Also at the bottom of the table I have a null case type (case type box is empty) with 7 ongoing but navigates to a similar page.

I am not sure how these entries have got there but I would like to safetly zero them.

Any instructions as to how to do this? I can access the DB if necessary (I have searched for these numbers but not found any conclusive data). I would be interested how the value 7 has been computed?

PS there are no empty cells in Table: civicrm_option_value which holds all the other case type descriptions.
