To follow up

It proved impossible to convert MyISAM tables to InnoDB, I encountered insurmountable problems with each of the 3 methods tried including the above.

I installed a new CiviCRM 1.8 on a different site and imported all the data, then dumped to an sql file then dropped and recreated the original CiviCRM db with the dump file.
