Signed up and am now blasting our first newsletter out.  It runs at nearly 4000 emails/hour which is almost three times faster than my host could do it.  Real-Time updates through the SOAP client working perfectly.  I'm using CiviCRM 3.0 Beta 5 and having no issues thus far...

Thank you so much for the kind words!   ;D  I am absolutely stoked that it is much faster for you than your last provider.

The send rates can theoretically be increased but it requires a different mechanism for sending. 

Currently CiviMail sends the emails one at a time from your server to ours so there is not too much in the way of parallelism.  Using some sort of batching mechanism will increase the send rates dramatically.  However, doing the batching requires some custom scripting to your CiviCRM installation as batching is not built into CiviCRM.  We are currently exploring the best way to include batching in the CiviSMTP service and will keep the community updated as to the progress.
