Allow users to view/edit employer automatically

Is there a way to automatically allow anyone who adds an organization as their employer to edit that organization (basically I want to allow them to make a contribution on behalf of that organization).
I tried creating a smart group, and giving Edit permission to everyone - didn't work. The only method that works is editing the relationships of the organization and allowing a specific contact to edit it.
Or ideally, I'd know where to stop the check that the system does to see if a user can edit their employer (e.g even as user 1, with 2 employers, when I go to civicrm/ajax/employer?cid=1, I get nothing. How is that page generated? If I can edit that, that'd be great)

Actually...never mind, I'll just use my own url instead of civicrm/ajax...
