Importing with Internal Contact ID issues
September 26, 2009, 04:20:11 am
I have a spreadsheet for which I have the CiviCRM Internal Contact IDs for some of the individuals but not for others.  (It was created by exporting the registrants for a CiviEvent, which had the Internal Contact ID, and then by adding people who showed up at the event but weren't registered).

I'd live to be able to import all of them again (they all have updated info), but when I import a csv that has the Internal Contact ID field with some of them being blank, for the blank ones that are already in the database it gives:

"Mismatched contact IDs OR Mismatched contact Types"

If I don't use the Internal Contact ID field on import, they match fine.  So it looks like it's showing the "Mismatched contact IDs" error because blank doesn't match with a number.  It seems to me that it should, because after all they do match if the Internal Contact ID field isn't included at all.

Am I missing a way to do this?

I could just do the imports without the Internal Contact ID field, but it feels unnecessarily risky to have to rely on matching for all the ones that I actually know the ID for.  I guess I could also divided it up into two separate uploads, one for the individuals with IDs and one for the ones without, but that's a pain, especially when the next thing I have to do is re-import again to set the subsets of individuals with specific tags and having to do THAT twice for each tag would be especially painful.

Thanks for any ideas or pointers,

- Trent

i think its easier and safer to split it into two files. One with contact ids, one without

I would write a script to do the splitting :)
