Send events with civimail

Is it possible to add an event to a civimail mailing so that in outlook the event is added to the calendar.
I think this would be done by attaching an ics file of the event, but i have no idea how to do that. Or are there any other ways to send the event?

There isn't such an option, but what you can do is send a link to the ical on your site (works for public events)

Not sure how that would work, because its not an .ics file. So FF just opens it as plain text and IE doesn't even do that, it just offers me the index.php to download.
The IE thing might be related to Joomla.

If I have an .ics file on the server (with .ics extension) then I can open it with Outlook without problems.
