Why aren't people screaming for recurring events?
September 29, 2009, 03:22:47 pm
I know that we should just make the contribution to civi and fund the development, but frankly we are financially hanging on by a financial thread right now.  I'm still curious why others wouldn't find this indispensable.  Many organizations have recurring events (classes, board meetings, etc.) and its cumbersome to repeat the event information each week.  yes, templates will help, but even naming an event becomes creative when its recurring. As far as implementation, I wonder if there isn't a parent / child relationship for events.   In fact, reporting would be much more meaningful if this were the case, because a master event could be reported on like an event category. We are interested in the impact of Tuesday night classes, for example, or our monthly dinner event from a reporting standpoint, while we are also interested in the specific event (participant list, revenue, etc.)

My $0.02

check: http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,3329.msg29143.html#msg29143 . That module might meet your needs.

My 2 cents, I think this is just part of the general growth and development of the community. I think there are lots of orgs who want it but very few (none?) willing to step up and either pay for it or develop it. Most folks are willing to live with the current limitations. The other option would be to try to get a group of folks interested in it to chip in and fund a developer to do so. Bottom line, someone needs to step up, coordinate and help push / buy / build this feature into the next version.

Wondering why some other folks are not screaming for it / building it etc does not really help the feature make any forward progress
