Employer Address
October 01, 2009, 06:19:13 am
It seems that you need to add a work address to an individual contact, even if the individual is linked to an organisation through the "Employer" field. It would be quite useful, if on the address tab you can indicate to use the Employer's details which would then save the user from double entry.

This could be similar to how you indicate to use the household address.

Thanks

Second this! Nice idea... However would it auto-update on change of the employer address? THis could be quite a massive undertaking, and without it would potentially lead to inconsistent data...

Probably needs some thought but it would be a great feature.

Hi Lianne. There is a feature request open for this here: http://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-4572 and it looks like wont happen until 3.2

I think this would do exactly what you need to do.

Hi,

We are quite a few needing this feature and are trying to collect enough to cover the dev cost. Do you think you could pledge to pay a bit for it ?

We would be interested - but as usual don't really know what the dev costs are and therefore what kind of figures we're talking about! If you can give me some ball-parks we might be able to contribute.

Consulting contract and rates are here: http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRM/Consulting+Services+Agreement

We estimate this will take between 100-150 hours. A more accurate estimate once we have folks willing to sponsor and have scoped out the project

While we would love to see this functionality, unfortunately, we could not contribute to the development costs as we are busy with sponsoring a few other pieces of dev work. We'll wait to see how it looks in 3.2!

Sorry again to not be able to help with this one.

Thanks for the info Lobo. I think I must be living in a slightly different world :) As to my calculations a full time (36 weeks a year) junior developer is earning in the region of $550,000 per year before overheads!

This would also value the feature at a minimum of $10,000, possibly up to over $20,000. While I completely respect your prices (nice if you can get it!), I don't think we can contribute that kind of significant sum to such a feature. Also if its planned for 3.2 anyway it seems we will see it one day!

I really hope one day I can find a way to contribute in this way more! We need to work with some bigger clients first!

All the best, Adam

i suspect u got your calculations a wee bit wrong: 36 (weeks) * 30 (hours/week, assuming a developer is doing other misc stuff the other 10 hours) * 100 = 108,000. Even if u make it 40 hours, it is 144,000

I dont know consulting rates in the UK are, but our rates are below some of the larger drupal/civicrm consulting shops. Note that large consulting projects for CiviCRM actually help support a fair part of the project

Yes it is expensive, but in general software development and maintainance is. If we build it, we also maintain it and respond to forum posts :)

My question wasn't about finding a sponsor for the full dev, but see if we can group several that can't pay the real cost and each pay our slice.

As for the planning, it's been planned for 2.3 already and has been pushed, partly because this feature didn't find a sponsor. We might wait the 3.2 and have this discussion again, or see if we can group and push it sooner than later :)

I'm meeting today another company that has some clients that might contribute a bit. It'd be great if you could contribute too.

Hi Lobo,

Apologies, I did get my calculations wrong ;) but also please don't misunderstand me, I do appreciate you should be getting paid well for what you do! I just didn't realise that the going rates were this kind of level. From my experience the going daily rate in the UK is about half of that, but then we're not in London and as we all know times are hard. Its great to see. Unfortunately an example is that the cost of this feature is often what we would charge for a basic drupal design and install so you can imagine the budgets we're working with! Need to sharpen up and start aiming for the same levels :)

Thanks for your response and I hope soon that we will be able to contribute more in sponsoring these developments.

Adam
