It appears that if one enables the contribution amounts section on a CiviContribute page which is for member dues, it is impossible for free memberships to be given out, even if the minimum contribution is zero.
(this is in the case of using PayPal standard, not Pro - we don't have pro set up yet.)

Any workarounds for this, besides, I guess changing the payment processor from Paypal standard?

hi,

can you update your forum profile w/ CMS, CiviCRM, PHP and Mysql versions.

You might want to test your use case on demo site : http://drupal.demo.civicrm.org/

I think zero amount is going to work.

But I would say use "Separate Membership Payment" feature.
You can configure it for given contribution page from "Membership Settings" section.
related url might be like : http://drupal.demo.civicrm.org/civicrm/admin/contribute?reset=1&action=update&id=2&subPage=Membership
