Upgrading from Cases in 2.1 to CiviCase?
October 08, 2009, 11:31:34 am
Some months ago I attempted to upgrade a client's CiviCRM 2.1.6 site to 2.2.x. They use Cases to organize their Activities. The upgrade failed horribly, seemingly because the nature of cases changed so much between versions 2.1 and 2.2, and apparently because there is no upgrade path from one to the other.

Now that we are into version 3, it would be nice to get them upgraded. It seems like our options are to :
1. stop using Cases and delete all our existing Cases
2. attempt to configure CiviCase (why XML files?!) to match the current use of Cases

Is this actually the state of affairs? Has anyone out there upgraded from the old Case system to CiviCase?

Well that led me to this: http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Upgrading+to+CiviCase

Which says that option #2 is the only way to go.

You are right. You need need to define your workflow in xml file. You should check sample xml files:http://svn.civicrm.org/civicrm/branches/v3.0/CRM/Case/xml/configuration.sample/
