Joomla error or CiviCRM 1.7 conflict?
August 28, 2007, 10:10:45 am
I've just upgraded my Joomla font-end to v 1.0.13 without issue. Unfortunately I can no longer access my Component installer to uninstall CiviCRM v1.7 so that i can upgrade to 1.8 (since I know there are compatibility issues with passwords/cookies etc). Is it possible that the civicrm component is causing this problem? If so how would I manually uninstall v 1.7 and upgrade to 1.8. I have already backed up my db.

thanks

Not sure why you haven't got access to the installer. Thats more of a J! issue.

Personally I've not gone to 1.0.13 due to the reported issues. However I recieved this info today which might address the problem:

Quote
Joomla! 1.0.13. and the admin session fix.

Not all of you seem to have found an important fix that has been posted by Rob Schley on the forum for the last stable release of Joomla! 1.0.x. After the release of 1.0.13. a bug was reported about an issue with the admin session. This was breaking quite a few extensions.
Rob Schley was able to write a patch for this, and you can find the fix on the Upgrade forum. http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,200725.0.html

Thanks speleo.. found that and have it installed. What do you think about the civicrm uninstall/install? Can I do it all through FTP? Just dump all the old files an upload the new ones?

Looking at the installer I suspect that you could do it via FTP but  would favour sorting out why the installer is broken.  You'll need the installer to service the rest of the components / modules / mambots you've got...

hmm... that would either mean going back to a backup or doing a sys diff between versions.

Are you sure that the 12->13 upgrade was problem free? I find FTP unreliable with 100s of files and prefer to unzip the tarball over the J! install (after verifying it). Assuming that the installer worked before the upgrade and then didn't immediately afterwards then it might be worth reapplying the 1.0.13 upgrade patch.

Hope this is of some help. Best place to search otherwise would be the J! forum.
