Changing backend language??
October 12, 2009, 05:00:52 am
Hello,

Is there a language pack to change the backend? I'm using Joomla 1.5 and already have the frontend language pack for CiviCRM.
We would like it in Dutch.

If there's a language pack available, would you be so kind to link me to the download page?

Please reply ASAP as it is urgent!!

Kind regards,
Gary

Hey,

The translations pack for CiviCRM is available on project download page - file name is: civicrm-3.0.1-l10n.tar.gz

Instructions on how to apply it are here: http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/CiviCRM+Localisation#CiviCRMLocalisation-UserLanguage%28Translations%29

Thx,
m

Hey,

Thanks for your quick reply.

I have been on those 2 pages before. The second page I used to install the language pack I already have installed ATM. Though, when I installed that language pack, nothing changed in the backend.

Is there a specific file I need to download to ensure that the backend will also be in Dutch?

Kind regards,
Gary

You need to download the tarball with MO files, put them in the right place on your server – so the final path will be something like …civicrm…/l10n/nl_NL/civicrm.mo where …civicrm… is the directory where CiviCRM lives (the one hosting the CRM subdirectory) – and then change the language in Administer CiviCRM → Global Settings → Localization.
If you found the above helpful, please consider helping us in return – you can even steer CiviCRM’s future and help us extend CiviCRM in ways useful to you.

But when I do that only the frontend of the site (for users) will be in different language, not the administrator part?

CiviCRM doesn't have differentiation of interface localisation for frontend and backend - all the strings in CiviCRM will be put through translation mechanism. Actual strings that will be in Dutch depend on the state of translation.

If you are interested in Dutch, let me refer you to www.civicrm.nl (Dutch user group). We are still in the infant stage, but hopefully you will be able to share some of your experiences, pick up a hint or two and even assist us with the Dutch translation?
