custom relationship data
August 28, 2007, 11:49:15 am
Hi, this is probably more of a usability issue than an actual bug in the product, but
I am customizing an installation for a client who would like to record individual membership on committees (about 10 of them). Also, they'd like to track who the officers of the committees are.

So, I am going to use the Organization type (vs. Group) as the committee record. I added a custom relationship between Org and Ind to record Committee Membership, then to that Relationship I added a custom field to specify the Individual's officer position (optional). Great. However, the officer position field does not show up anywhere when viewing a contact record, Relationships tab only has the standard fields. The only place I can find it again is if I edit the relationship. Would be nice to show it on the Organization's Relationship tab.

Maybe there is a better way to do what I am aiming for? I'm working with 1.7, but I also duplicated it in the 1.8 demo.

Thanks

Donald Lobo

Todd:

Yes this is a limitation with 1.8. Kinda surprised that no one has pointed this out as yet. At he very least, we should display the custom fields in "View Relationship" (which i think we shou;d structure as an AJAX popup) when u click the link. Showing them in the Selector might be slightly problematic since there could potentially be many custom fields / relatioship / for all relationship types

Can you please file an issue against 2.0 for this and we'll take care of it. Thanx for highlighting this
