Membership Renewal
August 28, 2007, 05:32:50 pm
Joomla 1.12 & CiviCRM 1.8

I am about to go crazy, I think.  I am not able to get the Renew option to appear at all, anywhere, no matter the status of the membership.

I have checked the documentation and the forum and evidently, no one else is having a problem with it - or it just magically works and I don't have the magic.

I have been able to get the message: Your membership expired on x, in the Contribution page used to join for first time members, but it doesn't show up on the dash board.

My questions are these:
1. What causes the renew option to appear?  Is it running UpdateMembershipRecord.php?  From the test plan for membership renewal, it looks like the status doesn't have to be expired for it to be renewed: http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRM/Test+Plan+-+Membership+Renewal
2. Where does the renew option appear? Can't find it in dashboard or
3. Is there some better documentation available anywhere?
4. I'm willing to provide a login credentials to someone that might be able to assist me.
5. I've tried to replicate this on the demo server, and I have the same problem.

Anyone that can help would be very much appreciated.  I feel like I'm right there at the end of the tunnel, but I just can't get through.

Thanks in advance!
Patrick

goto http://demo.civicrm.org/drupal/
login as demo(user name) / demo(password)

now, check http://demo.civicrm.org/drupal/civicrm/contribute/transact?reset=1&action=preview&id=2
there, you can see message 'Your General membership expires on August 2nd, 2011'

this message appears only when the contact is having existing membership record (membership may be CURRENT or EXPIRED)
(so the above message means cid=104 is already having membership of type General which will be expired on August 2nd, 2011)

Now continue doing the transaction. After successful transaction, your membership will be renewed. You can check the renewed dates in the contact view / membership tab ( http://demo.civicrm.org/drupal/civicrm/contact/view?reset=1&cid=104 )

hope this clarifies your doubt..

Reply back if you need anymore info

Thanks
Manish

Hi Manish,

Thanks for the clarification.

From what I was reading, I was expecting to see an HTML Link that I was supposed to click to renew.  I was seeing the message you were referring to, I just didn't know that I had to process the renewal the same way I was processing a new membership (ie, hitting the continue button, etc).

So thanks again for the clarification!

Perhaps someone reading this that has the ability to do so will add this tidbit of knowledge to the documentation or the FAQ.

Patrick:

You can go to "My Contact Dashboard" >> Your Memberships section displays Expired / Inactive Membership. So If you have added a membership using Online Membership pages, you will see "Renew Now" link next to that membership.

Hi Kurund,

The Renew Now link does not show up in the dashboard - and I did process the membership online through the contribution pages.

I seem to be confused about how the membership renewal process works.

Do we establish a new membership for each renewal or is there a "renew membership link" ?

Seems like there is probably a renew button that extends the membership, but can't seem to see it. (lots of links for new member)  If the renew member link exists, which screen should I be able to see it on?  We are on CiviCRM Version 1.9

Thanks.

We support two way to renew existing membership.
1. Online Membership Renew.
2. One-step Membership Renewal.
this one step renew feature is available from CiviCRM 2.0 onward.

you might want to check here : http://drupal.demo.civicrm.org/

hope this help
