GoDaddy Shared Servers problem?
October 15, 2009, 09:29:24 am
Has anyone experienced issues with setting up CiviMail on GoDaddy's shared server hosting environment?

All the SMTP / Outbound mail settings are correct but we keep getting an error:  Failed to connect to smtpout.secureserver.net:25 [SMTP: Failed to connect socket: Connection refused (code: -1, response: )]

We did some poking around and saw that PEAR was not active and asked GoDaddy about it.  There response was:

"PEAR is automatically installed on your Linux hosting account; however, you will need to switch your PHP version to PHP 4 in order to have PEAR functional. We appreciate your patience and understanding in this matter."

Any other thoughts on what could be happening?  (fyi - SMTP settings are correct)

CiviCRM 2.2.7
Joomla 1.5.11
PHP 5.2.8
Apache
Linux

from the name of your smtp server, i suspect your smtp port is not 25 but a secure port (TLS, 587?)

u dont need any PEAR libraries. We include all the needed PHP libraries in the distribution

Thanks, Lobo.  We thought that at first too, but got the same results. Two other checks we did:

1)  We tested the SMTP details in another mail client and it worked.

2)  We tried using a different email account (and associated SMTP details) that is currently in use successfully in another CiviCRM installation on dreamhost.  The email didn't work on GoDaddy even though it worked on the Dreamhost installation.

The issues seems to be isolated to this installation of CiviCRM on GoDaddy's shared server hosting environment.

you should follow up with GoDaddy support. maybe they've blocked port 25?

If you get this error in your web browser, check the page source on whether the error is not between angle brackets – i.e., maybe there actually is something between ‘response:’ and the closing parenthesis.
If you found the above helpful, please consider helping us in return – you can even steer CiviCRM’s future and help us extend CiviCRM in ways useful to you.

For Godaddy SMTP it's port 80 or 3535

I am having the same issue on a godaddy shared account. I tried 25, 80, and 3535. I am going in to configure outbound mail

The error I am getting is "Failed to connect to smtp---.------.net:80 [SMTP: Invalid response code received from SMTP (outbound mail) server while attempting to send email. This is often caused by a misconfiguration in the CiviCRM Outbound Email settings. Please verify the settings at Administer CiviCRM >> Global Settings >> Outbound Email (SMTP). (code: -1, response: )]?"

and I am getting this from port 25 "Failed to connect to smtpout.secureserver.net:25 [SMTP: Failed to connect socket: Connection refused (code: -1, response: )]" I am also getting the same error on 3535.

***UPDATE***- I contacted godaddy support and found out how to fix this issue, the server that you should use is "relay-hosting.secureserver.net" port should be 25 or 80.****  ;D  ;D  ;D
