INstalled successfully but can't access
October 15, 2009, 07:08:58 pm
I was able to successfully install CiviCRM but when I go to the "Components" menu and click the "CiviCRM" link all it does is refresh to the control panel in Joomla.

Assuming you didn't get any errors and got "Install Successful", you'll need to check your webserver logs to see if there are errors there that might help. Also check the Install Troubleshooting doc on the wiki and search this forum.

OK, you will love this.  I originally installed this on a server that did not have InnoDB and got the warning that it requires it.  THing is it seemingly worked fine without InnoDB. So I contacted my hosting company and they said that the only way I can get InnoDB is to move to another one of their servers.  So we make the move and now I'm having this problem.  It gets better.  I asked about the error logs and this new server, which is configured with their own control panel, does not offer error logs.

Any suggestions?

might be worth looking into a better hosting provider (which will be more expensive) or a solution like civiserver.com

IMO, you do need the apache access/error logs and also ssh access to easily manage and maintain your civicrm install

Here is my hosting companies response.

"A technician responded to your ticket with:

Hello,

I have checked and I was able to see the error :

[Fri Oct 16 09:18:18 2009] [error] [client 86.105.199.137] PHP Notice:  Only variable references should be returned by reference in /home/tampa22/public_html/administrator/components/com_civicrm/civicrm/CRM/Core/BAO/UFMatch.php on line 176, referer: http://secondchancelifeskills.org/administrator/index.php

Please kindly check with the developers as this looks like it's a coding issue. I hope this is helpful. Please let us know if you have any other questions or issues. We will be happy to respond to them. Thank you !"

That is just a notice and not an error

Here is the response from my hosting company

"I would like to mention that there is no issue with the server. As you are using a third party script and we do not support third party tool, I would request you to please contact the owner of the script and ask them what extra feature do they need for its functionality so that we can check with our server."

So do I need anything special to make this work?

you might want to consider hiring someone from http://civicrm.org/professional/ or trying a different hosting service

My hosting company would like to know what features do you require in PHP for this to work?
