Firefox won't execute civicrm/install/upgrade.php
October 18, 2009, 02:53:54 pm
I'm upgrading from Drupal 5/CiviCRM 2.0 to Drupal 6/CiviCRM 2.1 following the instructions at
http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC21/Upgrade+Drupal+Sites+to+2.1, with some modifications.

This is a multi-site installation. None of the sites are very active.

I have a Drupal 6 test site and updated all the databases on that site with CiviCRM disabled.

I have all sites off-line for maintenance. I went to each site, using Firefox, as user/1 to put it in maintenance mode.

I've copied Drupal 6 into public_html
Copied all the Drupal 6 databases over the Drupal 5 versions.
Without CiviCRM in public_html/sites/modules/all, the sites look OK.
Copied CiviCRM 2.1 into public_html/sites/modules/all.

When I try to run the upgrade script for the primary site:

http://nccommunities.org/sites/all/modules/civicrm/install/upgrade.php?reset=1

Firefox won't execute update.php. It says:

You have chosen to open upgrade.php which is a php file from: http://nccommunities.org.
What should Firefox do with this file:

It gives me an option to open it with FLOCK.EXE
or Save File.
I tried the FLOCK.EXE option, but it just download the file to my PC.

I wondered if Firefox forgot that I was logged into each site as user 1, so I went to nccommunities.org/?q=user and logged in again and then tried

http://nccommunities.org/sites/all/modules/civicrm/install/upgrade.php?reset=1

but got the same thing. Firefox wants to download the file.

Same thing. Firefox will only download the update.php file.

I should add that, although CiviCRM is installed on 3 of the 8 sites, none have done anything useful yet. I could just reinstall CiviCRM on the sites. But I want to make sure we can maintain sites in the future.

Also, from the Drupal 5 to 6 upgrade, I think a multi-site installation may not be good for us. It might be better to have separate Drupal installs for each.

This is probably a .htaccess issue (i suspect). can u check if there are any .htaccess files for each directory in that path and rename them to test things

thanx

That was the problem. I found a .htaccess in the sites directory and renamed it. The update didn't work on the first try, but I removed cookies and then it worked.
Upgrade CiviCRM to Version 2.1.6
CiviCRM upgrade successful

For the other two sites, I logged in using ?q=user and removed cookies before running the update and they both worked too.

Thank you!
