Classes...
October 19, 2009, 07:22:41 pm
So, the school I am working with has added some more features they want in their CiviCRM install.

Basically, what they want is to have classes that can be attached to students. Each of these classes has a cost. The student would then have in their record how much they owe for those classes, how much they have paid, and how much they still owe. Only the amount paid should be inputted by the school - the database should total how much their classes are and then how much they owe after payments are made.

Their school is set up so that you're in certain programs. If you're set to be in a specific program, they want CiviCRM to automatically register the person for certain classes.

I can't find a way to do these now, but it seems like with some changes that it should be possible.

So we're looking for...

- is it possible?
- if so, are these changes we can make?
- if we can't make them ourselves, is there someone who is qualified we can hire to finish these changes?

I'd like to get this taken care of ASAP so we can finish up this project.

Thanks.

1. it should be possible (anything is possible  via custom code!)

2. the financial details are probably best stored in a seperate custom group tied to a contact

3. you can register for certain classed if they are in a program potentially via a hook or cron job (depending on how the participation in a program is recorded)

4. check http://civicrm.org/professional/ for a listing of folks. Web Access should be able to help you out

Yea, we just need it done in a way so that when they add future classes, amounts, etc., it'll work for that as well without needing a developer to go in and do it for them. Also, we're likely going to need a developer in the U.S. We do a lot of political work and have a pretty much have a policy of hiring in-country only. Is there any one that you'd recommend?
