Organizations Registering Multiple People And Edits
October 20, 2009, 02:26:39 pm
Hi,

I'm working with the U.S. Social Forum (ussf2010.org) and we are most likely going to be using CiviEvent for our registrations. When an organization registers, they will have the option to pay a certain amount to bring 3 members to the Forum, and if they pay more they can bring more.

From playing with the 3.0 demo site it seems quite possible to do the online registration where Organizations can register their organization and then 1 to many individuals under that registation. Basically I would add an Organization Profile to the top of the form, and then use the "Register additional people for this event" functionality to allow multiple Individual Profiles to be added to the Registration. I still need to figure out if we can do lockdowns on the Fee structure to only allow a certain number of individuals based on the fee paid. I guess worse comes to worse I could add validation through hooks, but it would be nice if I didn't have to do that. Anybody have any advice on that?

The next big question is one that I'm afraid I know the answer to, is there anyway for registrants to go back and edit their information. Because its going to be the reality that Organizations are going to want to change/add the Individuals they are going to bring. They will also in some cases want to pay more to bring more members. I searched the forums and found this: http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,6394.0.html which pretty directly tells me the answer is no. I'm just hoping that some sort of miracle happened since February.

So if the answer is no, has anybody found any workaround that might help with our situation? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your time,

Hey mark:

i'm assuming u r chatting and coordinating with mallory k

a few comments:

1. U cannot use an organization profile in civievent registration (folks registering are individuals). U could potentially collect "org related info" via the first person and then use a cron job to create/associate orgs with all the folks who registered via that person. Alternatively you can do this via implementing a few hooks

2. The fee validation is best done via the validate hook

3. no miracles have happened on the modify event reg / participant info as yet.

ping us on IRC if u want to chat / need help on getting started with the above. we can figure out something and make things happen

Hi Donald,

sorry for not replying earlier, i somehow missed that you responded. And yes, i'm in pretty constant contact with Mallory.

Thanks for your quick response, especially your comment that let me know you can't have an organization profile on a civievent registration. I saw the dropdown of profiles and just assumed you could pick an organization profile. Glad we figure that out now. I guess we'd probably want to do it via hooks rather than cron so we can have that data entered immediately.

Fee validation via hooks makes sense.

As far as the edit, we might end up having a civi hook create an drupal organic group, which will be editable by members of the organization allowing them to change the registered members of the organization, and just have that info propogate back to civi. We still need to have another design meeting to figure out our exact workflow.

I'm sure after our next design meeting I'll be hopping in the IRC channel with some questions.

thanks again!
Mark
