CiviCRM for "free" social group
October 22, 2009, 08:18:39 am
Hi,

I run a non-profit (in fact no-money at all) local social group.

We organise free social events (museum visits, pub quizzes, days out, etc) that people can attend.

My main requirements are for a system that allows us (A group of admins) to schedule events on a calendar that people can subscribe to, and then have email alerts sent to the group members either on a scheduled basis (all events in the next 7/14/30 days) or X days before the event.

The events should allow people to indicate their attendance (think facebook events), comment on and discuss the event.

Currently I run the website using a combination of Drupal 6, PHPBB3, Gallery2, Google Calendar and PHPlist.
I'm looking to replace all this complexity into a single site so I can hand over some of the admin to members of the group without having to "train" them on all the quirks that integrating all these excellent programs has made.

Is CiviCRM overkill for what I am looking for? We don't take payments for any event or membership, so I wouldn't need those modules.

Any comments or suggestions are welcome.

Regards

Stuart

based on your description, i suspect civicrm is overkill and does not meet most of your needs (out of the box) (subscribe to a calendar, automated email alert)

Great, thanks for your quick replies, I shall investigate Drupal 6 some more.
