In 2.2, I had a Civicrm block to search for contacts and it worked from ANY page. After upgrade to 3.0, the Civicrm full-text search block only works if you are already on a Civicrm page. If I'm on the home page, or a Drupal Admin page, and I enter a contact name to search, the page flickers (as if it's starting something is about to happen) and then nothing happens. I'm still looking at the same page.

Any idea how to make the search available from outside civicirm pages?

First you will have to remove civicrm* from "Page specific visibility settings" in Drupal >> Blocks >> Configure

This is fixed in http://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-5192, and will be part if next 3.0.x release.
