Help with CiviCRM/Joomla issue
October 25, 2009, 10:14:30 am
There are many areas that when I go to them I get a blank screen.  I am running Joomla 1.5 and CiviCRM.  As an example, when I go to:
Administration Console>Customize>CiviCRM Profile, I get a blank screen.  This and several others give me the same result.  Does anyone know what is causing this?  Most of the site is complete except for CiviCRM and a few minor tweaks.  The site is www.lifemessage.org/lm

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Generally you need to check your web server (apache?) logs to figure out cause of white screen (esp if it doesn't happen on ALL CiviCRM screens). Best guess would be insufficient memory allocated to PHP. You can also search this forum for other issues / solutions to "white screen" or "blank screen".

I can do that, but what is the appropriate amount of memory needed.

i would first check the error log to make sure it is running out of memory

we do recommend at least 64M for CiviCRM operation

I am at 128M.  Could it be that I am on a shared GoDaddy site?  If I try to go to the Administration Console or Activity Types (and there are a few others) I get the blank or white screen.  I am frustrated because I have put a lot of work into the groups, events, activities CRM Profile, and I hope it was not all for naught.  The CiviCRM is the closest crm that matches what we need.

can you please check the error log and report back on what is in there

in general, we dont recommend shared hosting, we do think its better to pay the extra $$$ and get a VPS

At the risk of sounding too new, please expand on checking the error logs.  Are you referring to the logs generated by GoDaddy or is there a folder on the site that contains the error logs?

lobo,

We appreciate your help, but unfortunately GoDaddy does not provide the level of error logs needed.  I am searching for other hosts that cater to the non-profit community.  i am also installing Drupal and am taking a crash course in it.  We need to have this site up yesterday.  We have a fundraiser on the 21st of November and cannot advertise it until we can taken in event registrations and donors.

I have a simple donor form created, but in IE8 I cannot select any amount other than $25.00.  But in FF I can select any of them.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Given your tight timeframe, you might consider hiring some help from our Professional Services page (http://civicrm.org/professional) and / or using a hosted CiviCRM service (several are listed here: http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRM/Hosting+provider+information).

I appreciate the advice and the sources of web hosting.  Being a brand new org, we have to be very careful with the outflow of money.  I have some strong skills as well as some very weak ones (Apache error reporting seems to be one of them).  I think all I need is some direction and for the most part we will be OK.

On my last post I mentioned the IE vs. FF issue.  Do you have any thoughts on that?

FYI - We have NOT had good reports from folks trying to implement CiviCRM using GoDaddy hosting. This forum is littered with wasted hours and pulled hair :-(

No idea on your IE vs FireFox issue - although some jScript or theme related problem is possible. However I can't recall seeing a browser problem as localized as not being able to select some items in a set of radio buttons. I'm assuming this is a CiviContribute online contribution page - but unfortunately you haven't provided any details about what you've configured, screenshots, the URL you've accessing / link for folks to try out etc.

Yes I agree, if I stay here, i will not need to go out and get a haircut.  I will be researching the other hosting sites as soon as possible.  Yes, it is a CiviContribute online contribution.

The joomla link is www.lifemessage.org/lm and the brand new (and woefully incomplete) drupal site is www.livemessage.org/life
