Explain Global Setting "Image Upload URL"
October 27, 2009, 07:16:57 pm
Hi,

Can someone explain to me what "Image Upload URL" setting is for on the Global Settings/Resource URLs page?

This page in the 3.0 documentation does not mention it even though it is on that screen...

http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Resource+URLs

I found that setting there on 2.9 as well as 3.x.  I don't remember ever setting it.  And it points to a path that doesn't exist as follows:

http://mysite.org/sites/default/files/civicrm/persist/contribute/

Please note that I'm using a Drupal multisite setup so I don't in fact have a files folder in this location.  If I copy and paste this URL (with my actual domain of course) I simply get the normal Drupal page not found screen.  So I tried uploading a picture to a custom field that I had previously set up for something else.  It worked and the file ended up in /sites/mysite.org/files/civicrm/custom.

So what is that for?

Possibly unrelated, but after I finished trying the above (uploading an image to a custom field), I then deleted the image attachment, but it was still in the /sites/mysite.org/files/civicrm/custom directory (it wasn't deleted).

Does it clean it out on cron or something?  Is there a trash bin feature?  Or is this a configuration error on my part?

Thanks,

Peter

This is used for showing premium images for Online Contribution pages.

Looks like files are not deleted from this custom folder. So I guess you will have to write cron script to remove then periodically.

Could you elaborate a bit more?  Since it is in the Admin UI presumably there is some circumstance in which is should be modified.  What exactly does it do?  How would one test that it isn't working and change it to something that is?

I'd be happy to update the documentation page that currently doesn't mention it if I had more information.

Thanks.

If I delete a file through the UI I kind of expect it to get deleted.  Otherwise unnecessary files would pile up to swell my backups.

So is this by design, a bug, or a misconfiguration on my part?

Thanks.

This is a bug, please file an issue and we'll fix in a future release

if important to you, consider submitting a patch along with the issue and/or sponsoring a developer to work on it

thanx
