Check for Matching Contacts Button -> New Individual Page
October 29, 2009, 06:12:29 am
I have a question regarding the "Check for Matching Contacts" button on the New Individual page. I read the documentation regarding Find and Merge Duplicate Contacts as found (http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Find+and+Merge+Duplicate+Contacts). I went to the Find and Merge Duplicate Contacts page and edited the Strict Rule for Individual. On this page I added two more fields (first name, last name) and set their lengths to 5 while setting the Email field length to 10 as found (http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,6053.msg26740.html#msg26740). I set the "Weight Threshold to Consider Contacts Matching" to 10 and saved.

I have tried testing this and playing around with it but it never finds any matches. I have test data in our database and when I try to enter their names they don't come up. Every time I get a yellow warning box "No matching contact found."

Also, just wanted to point out there are two first names and two last names in my field option -> on the page where I can edit the Strict Individual Rules. I have tried both and neither seems to work. Any ideas of how to get the "Check for Matching Contacts" button to work?

Duplicate Contacts page and edited the Strict Rule for Individual.

you might want to edit 'Fuzzy' rule from contact matching rules and check.

hope this help.

Sorry forgot to mention. I also played around with this one as well. I have First Name, Last Name, and Email on my field list and have their lengths to 5, 5, 10 respectively. My "Weight Threshold to Consider Matching" is set to 8.

It seems like functionality is working fine for my local install.

Minimum criteria to detect two contacts as duplicate in your case would be :
1. same first name and last name.
OR
2. same email address.

would be good if you try to replicate issue on our demo site : http://demo.civicrm.org/

thanks

Kiran, you're awesome! Upon trying to replicate within y'alls demo site I realized the problem. You see I got it to come up with the error but then I noticed I was trying to add Jason Alexander (I had set my field lengths to 5). This is when I had an epiphany and realized that the weight will only be added to the matching threshold weight if five match. Therefore that is why I was getting my error. I also had my weights set to values 1, 2, 3. I realized they needed to be much higher so that it was physically possible to be higher than the matching threshold.

Thanks again! APPLAUD! :)
