Path and autorisation problem
August 30, 2007, 12:57:35 pm
Ok.. this has probably been asked a dozen times, but I can't seem to be able to figure it out.

I am trying to install Drupal and Civicrm for a site in the Netherlands. Unfortunately things seem to go wrong with the path and authorisations. After doing a manual install I get a persistant message in drupal:

"Oops! - The path for including CiviCRM code files is not set properly. Most likely there is an error in the civicrm_root setting in your CiviCRM settings file (sites/default/civicrm.settings.php).

» civicrm_root is currently set to: /domains/ronald-marcia.nl/public_html/content/modules/civicrm/."

Problem is that I can't figure out what the correct path should be. I talked to my provider and they said it's a problem in the install script and they cannot provide me with the path (they won't even look at it). Also they said that var/www/ directories exist, but that I do not have access to it. I gave all the required directories 777 access and hoped that would work. Also I tried all type of variations on the path (including trying out var/www paths). Unfortunately none of it seems to work.

I don't have shell access to my account, but have to work is something called 'directadmin'. I looked at the forum to see if I could figure out what the path should be, but unfortunately to no avail.

Is there anyone that would be able to help me with this? I would really like to use civicrm, but can't get it installed.

thanx

Can u cut-n-paste the entire error message displayed in your browser. This normally tells us the right path.

Also can you use the installer rather than the manual install option. We can figure this out automatically and should make things easier for you

this is the complete message:

I have tried to use the automatic installer.. but I have PHP4, so that doesn't work

thanks

You might want to think about finding a PHP5 host. 1.8 is the last php4 version of civicrm

can u set

$civicrm_root = '/home/rpostema/domains/ronald-marcia.nl/public_html/content/sites/all/modules/civicrm';

thanx

ok.. the error messages have disappeared. Funny though I was sure I had tried that path also.

I'll talk to my provider to see when they plan to install PHP5 (this provider is just new to me).

Thanks a lot.. I'll give civicrm a try now.. From the demo I saw on Drupal I am sure it will be what we are looking for. I'll give a post on the showcase once I got a configured.

Again Thanks!

ok.. this is weird...

if I go in through the hostname I get massive errors.

http://content.ronald-marcia.nl/index.php?q=civicrm/dashboard&reset=1

however if I go in through the IP adress I get a correct menu

http://85.17.62.67/~rpostema/content/?q=civicrm/dashboard&reset=1

This is the same page.... however one works and the other one doesn't

Someone else had a similar issue recently, and i dont think they posted back the resolution (if they resolved it).

My first thought would be to check the url settings in all your your setting files (settings.php, civicrm.settings.php and Administer CiviCRM >> Global Settings >> URLs) and ensure that they are consistent (i.e. point to the name).

I noticed that Drupal has the same problem when changing theme's. It apparently wants to write in the files directory but can't. Which makes me wonder what is different in the IP vs. Hostname

I'll post on the Drupal forum and see if someone has encountered the same problem. This might be an issue on provider level though.
