After a profile has been created, how is a submit button inserted.

Submit buttons are included in the page automatically for profiles. For example:

http://drupal.demo.civicrm.org/civicrm/profile/create?gid=1&reset=1

Make sure and review the section on Profiles in the online doc (including the Linking Profiles sections):
