Not a problem. I did what jumped out to me as being incorrect for the current version of CiviCRM.

Wait, you're saying that if I'm getting a payment processor solely because civicrm requires one to make civievent work even for free events, I have to buy an ssl? And for custom fields I have to pay $30/month  for paypal pro?

Elin:

1. You dont need a payment processor for free events (and hence no SSL)

2. If custom fields for events is super important and you cannot live without it, you have a couple of options:

a. pay for paypal pro ($30 a month or so)
b. pay for someone to code that for the 1.x series. We can help the person out on IRC. I suspect it is a 40-60 hour project
c. wait for 2.x

I thought you did need it??? Now I am remembering that this is something that was changed somewhere along the way, right?  Sorry to be grouchy when I posted;  I  shouldn't post in the middle of the night.

I'm getting the same problem as the poster at the start of this thread.

I'm using CivicCRM 1.8 on a multisite drupal 5.2 sytem (shared code, shared user tables). The civicrm setup uses the same code and database across all the sites. The site is hosted on Bluehost with CPanel. I have a single IP address and RapidSSL certificate on the primary domain.

I've set up everything in the settings on Google Checkout, including the API call back URL, and the various keys and entered these into the CiviCRM Google Checkout settings.

The test drive registration works fine, but in the live process, when you click the Google Checkout you are taken to google.com's front page (search), not to Google checkout!

Any ideas anyone?

As noted earlier in this thread:

2. for live, you need to also use an https certificate from a list of "certified" providers. check:

http://groups.google.com/group/google-checkout-developers-forum/web/google-checkout-and-ssl-certificates

... so if test drive works and live doesn't, I suspect it's related to the SSL requirement / your SSL configuration.

I've checked everything else so it must be something with the certificate. I've got an Equifax Secure Global eBusiness CA-1 certificate, listed as a supported root certificate by Google checkout at:
http://checkout.google.com/support/sell/bin/answer.py?answer=57856

So it should work... but I'll run the tests on the chain to make sure nothing is corrupted:
http://groups.google.com/group/google-checkout-developers-forum/web/google-checkout-and-ssl-certificates

Thanks Stephen

One query that has come up in another thread and yet I can't find the answer to is which Google Callback method to use: XML or HTML? Default is XML - is this correct?

The RapidSSL certificate is a single root certificate and I can find examples of other users successfully using this certificate with Google Checkout, albeit not with CiviCRM.

Furthermore, according to:
http://checkout.google.com/support/sell/bin/answer.py?answer=42923&topic=12156

"If you are using HTTPS in the sandbox environment, you must also have a valid SSL certificate."

Which doesn't explain to me why the sandbox works for me using SSL, and live doesn't, as I am using the SSL connection to the Sandbox too.  Unless this statement is incorrect?

the default XML is correct.

We dont have a lot of experience with google checkout in live mode Please post back your findings when you have solved the issue for others to benefit

thanx

I've not been able to work this out. I've had had a peek at the code and decided it is beyond my knowledge of CiviCRM and beyond the time I've got available. Given the other limitations on the event system, I would rather start from scratch coding my own bespoke system even though it offends my community spirit! Sorry.

As an interim measure I'm using a free sign-up and putting a link on the confirmation page to the checkout i.e. it isn't integrated, but as we only talking of a few hundred entries, this is easier than fiddling with code I don't know and it allows us the option of cheques by post.

It might be worth updating the manual pages to reflect that the Google Checkout code is in early stages (as  is the custom fields for events etc).

Thanks, Stephen

I think a few people have gotten Google checkout to work. So not sure if it is a code issue or setting issue or ??? in your case. In general for any third party integration, would really help us if the community steps up and helps debug/support/trace such issues. We cannot realistically support all payment processors effectively.

The profile selection in 'manage events' form does describe the custom field limitation. If you think it will help other folks if the documentation is updated, please do so. The documentation is on a wiki and can be edited

I'm having the same issue as the first poster and scedwar. I'm running CiviCRM 1.9 and Drupal 5.3.  I have a certificate bought from Geotrust (SSL Premium) with Equifax Secure CA  as root and no intermediate. Equifax Secure CA is on Google's list of approved root issuers.

What's interesting is that:
1. The Google post-order callback to my https:// site works with a test purchase and updates the CiviContribute order information successfully. This suggests that the certificate is working and acceptable to Google.
2. The test checkout button works but the live checkout button takes me to Google home page.

I wonder if there is a problem other than the SSL certificate config causing the checkout button to redirect to Google's home page? I'd like to look into it but am not sure where to start...

maryee:

can we get access to your system so we can help debug it. We'd like to avoid going down the road of getting a valid SSL certificate etc (for now)

The first place to look is the url that the button redirects you on the google site. I suspect that might be the first problem

I unfortunately can't work out which Google URL the checkout button is redirecting to... I'll spend some more time on it.
I'd be happy to give access - how do I send login info without posting it on the list?
