Various Issues
October 31, 2009, 02:36:55 pm
In all of the 3.0.x series (apart from some of the alphas, actually) I've had a few issues that I haven't really been able to particularly pin down or reproduce on the demo site in a way which is helpful.

I have the following menu links:

1. Normal link-to-a-page menu item
then as sub items
  1.1 CiviCRM Dashboard,
1.2 a contribution page (Membership sign up)
1.3 an edit your details (profile) link.

Normally in the template when you click on the first level menu item, that opens that page and the sub menu items then become visible on the menu. This is on the default Joomla template.

1. In 3.0.2 (but not previously) clicking on the parent menu item seems not lead to the sub menu items appearing. It looks as if there are no sub items for the parent menu item, but if you click often enough, it eventually confesses they exist.

2. Sometimes, and I can't identify what the sensitivity is, if you click on the dashboard link it fails, either giving a white screen with no HTML or part of the civiCRM content but none of the Joomla content and then refuses to serve up any CiviCRM pages (without errors, or truncating them early, or providing part of the civiCRM content with no Joomla content) for a while (again, can't identify the period). I note that when it is working the Joomla template and content load first, and then sometimes there is a slight pause and the civicrm stuff appears, but when it fails it jumps straight to the civicrm (partial) content, if any. Other times it works fine. This wasn't a problem in 3.0.alphas, appeared in the betas, got better in 3.0.0 and then seems worse again in 3.0.2. I can't pin it to anything specific, but it is making this pretty much unusable at the moment.

This is all front end functionality. The back end always works perfectly, if that's relevant. Given I use the default Joomla template I'm surprised I've got a problem.

I'd be prepared to delete civiCRM and do a fresh install (bit of a pain, but if this is just a problem because I've just fiddled with too many versions, then fine, but I can't see how to do a total uninstall of CiviCRM (i.e. including database tables and the works - the standard component uninstall/reinstall leaves all that stuff.

Any suggestions? I realise its hard with non-specific problems like this.

thanks.
E.

I'm pretty sure this is just a Joomla template issue.

Do submenus work for non-Civi menu items with this template?

Thanks for your responses. I've turned off caching and the menu/sub-menu thing seems now to work, at least for the moment.

On the bad output things, for a page where there is no content at all, firebug output is:
1Failed to load source for: http://www.marlowrowingclub.org.uk/index.php?option=com_civicrm&view=Contributions&Itemid=160

For a screen where I get some CiviCRM content but not the whole thing firebug reports the HTML and script as per the attachments.
