Problem with 3.0 event participants search

Upgraded to 3.0 and very happy with it. 

However, I did notice that when I use the Events> Find Participants searching with a date range it will only turn up participants for events that have an END time as well as start time.  It took some head scratching to figure out what was going on.  I don't remember having this problem on 2 but it's possible it was the same and I didn't notice it. 

I imagine other people will also see this as a problem - I think either an end time should be required or it should be fixed so it turns up events without an end time.

This seems like a incomplete feature. Would be great if you could write a patch that addresses the issue.

I took a quick look at the code and it did not seem that the two dates were related. If you could recreate the issue on drupal.demo.civicrm.org and give us specific steps to reproduce it that would be great (and potentially make the fix a lot easier)

Well, it worked properly in the demo so probably not a big issue.  Maybe it only happens with events that were created in version 2?

I am not a programmer, I definitely don't have the skills to write a patch.

We have seen errors with date search not working for event participants, but have not nailed down the issue.
