Stand alone forms and email in 1.8?
August 31, 2007, 07:47:28 pm
Reading over this thread

http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,287.0.html

It seems as though there was some planned change in how it might be possible to handle sending an email as part of a standalone form.

I don't see anything about how this actually would work .... how would I go about sending an email notice when a profile form is submitted.

Check:

http://demo.civicrm.org/drupal/civicrm/admin/uf/group?action=update&id=1

Specifically the "Notify when profile form is submitted?" in the Advanced Settings section of the form.

No, that much I get.  :) I think it is a problem with the email more generally.

I haven't received any email notifications from the profile forms and the standard civicrm email works fine.

We did some QA on this feature earlier today and realized it does not work as advertised. We are currently fixing it in 1.8 and will be available in the next 1.8 release (in 1-2 weeks)

You can track the issue here: http://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-1941. If needed earlier, you can update from svn when the issue is fixed

sorry about that :(

Phew, another instance in which I thought I was crazy.

Thanks as always for being on top of things.

FWIW in the mean time it works to use JavaScript to write a cookie containing data from the form (e.g. First Name, Last Name, Email Address) - you can attach a JS function to the Submit button using onClick. Then, on a thank-you page, use PHP to read from the cookie and send the info in an email. Hopefully this will soon become unnecessary, though.  :)
