[total newbie] Navigation menu missing & user tabs not displayed
November 05, 2009, 07:57:54 am
I've installed Drupal 6 and CiviCRM 3.0.2.
Installation did go OK. However, the CiviCRM navigation menu is not displayed at all. This is really a pain in the... because there was no way for me to configure CiviCRM, since I could not navigate to the CiviCRM Administer page. I found out that by entering the direct URL (www.mydomain.com/drupal/nl/civicrm/admin/setting/url?reset=1 I can go to the same page. I have a few issues, which probably are related:

1.
As mentioned, the Navigation Menu is not displayed. If I then check the 'Navigation Menu page' I see no buttons configured at all. I can "Add new menu item", which saves 'properly' without error message, but is subsequently not displayed (not in the 'top Navigation Menu' nor in the 'Navigation menu page'. In any case I do not want to have to configure all the applicable buttons for the Navigation Menu myself.

2.
I guess it's related with the above mentioned problem, but I think there is something wrong with the whole interface in general. For instance the user tabs are not displayed as tabs but as a list. See the following screenshot:

3.
Also if I try to edit contact details then all the tabs are already expanded. Furthermore the bluesquared questionmarks do not work, nor does the functionality to add more items (for instance: e-mail or phone)

I'm not that tech-skilled, but it seems like Ajax is not working properly. These problems occur in IE as well as in Firefox. Other sites with Ajax-functionality work fine.

Hopefully somebody can help me out or pinpoint me in the right direction, I've been fighting with this issue almost all day now and aged quite a lot...

First thing to check is your CiviCRM Resource URLs - because it sounds like the civicrm.css and / or .js files are not loading. From Global Settings go to Resource URLs page and double-check the value there. Should be something like:

http://<your_drupal_site>/sites/all/modules/civicrm/

If that doesn't fix things, your next clue is to do a view source on any CiviCRM page and check the URL's listed for civicrm.css, js/Common.js  etc and try to access those url's from your browser.

Hi Dave. That did the trick. The resource URL contained the 'language letters'. I removed them and the Navigation Menu appeared. Thanks a million!

Apart from that, I think it's rather strange that the resource URL should not contain the language letters while the URL in the adress bar actually does contain them.
Current adress bar: http://www.mydomain.com/cms/nl/sites/all/modules/civicrm/
Current Resource URL: http://www.mydomain.com/cms/sites/all/modules/civicrm/

Nonetheless it works so I'm quite happy.

This is because we inherit Drupal’s localised path; otherwise we’d break the outgoing links from CiviCRM back to Drupal (the user wouldn’t return to the properly-localised version of Drupal).

I think we shouldn’t consider the language part when we auto-generate the base URL (if it’s missing); I’ll investigate this further on Monday and fix if needed. Thanks for the report!
If you found the above helpful, please consider helping us in return – you can even steer CiviCRM’s future and help us extend CiviCRM in ways useful to you.
