What is best to print "chevalets" & name badge automatically ?
November 06, 2009, 07:05:17 am
Hi,

We are organising a meeting, and we need to print for each participant:

- a name badge (first name+last name+employeen like a label, but with a logo+name of the conference)
- a chevalet, (not sure what's the name in english, the name placeholder triangle that you have on the table in front of the speakers).
The trick on that one is that you need to print the name on both side of the triangle. We use a single A4 (letter), folded in two and the name printed on both part, but one has to be upside down, so when you fold them, they are both on the right orientation.

What is the best way of doing that ? Custom report ?

1. you can potentially modify mailing labels to help create name badges. Would be a great addition to CiviEvent

2. i think u'll have to do the chevalet via a custom report

We also need name badges.  For the time being, we plan to extract the data to a CSV and use Word to format and print the badges.
That's probably the fast solution to the chevalet problem as well.

i did some research last nite to see if there are any open source "event" badge programs. No luck finding any in PHP. but here are 2 things that we might want to consider following up on / integrating with.

http://big.first.name/ (a web service for name badges)

http://code.google.com/p/event-badge-generator/ (does not seem to have a lot of usage, last update in 2007)

Not sure that's worthwhile adding an external dependency

The external solution of exporting + doing a mail merge on a word processor seems as good.

Might do a custom search to export easily all the needed fields and generate the badges as html. I let you know if I can do a positioning that is good enough to fit to print .

We always just export to CVS and use Microsoft Excel to merge onto badges.  As for tent cards (what we call them here), we have so few that I just do those individually in Word.
