"Constraint Violation" in Drupal/CiviCRM Update
November 10, 2009, 02:40:04 pm
I updated to the latest Drupal and everything went (fairly) well (gotta re-tweak the theme), but when I run the installation for CiviCRM 3.0, I get a message that says "Cannot Execute DROP TABLE IF EXISTS CiviCRM_contact:DB error: constraint violation." This may be a MySQL problem or a constraint the ISP puts on it, but I'm too ignorant to know. Not too proud to ask for help, though, so what did I do wrong and how can I fix it? The previous install ran fine, except for all those Status messages telling me I really should update Drupal and my theme. Thanks for any help.

Are you doing an install or an upgrade? If upgrade (as it kind of sounds like), are you following these steps:

http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC/Upgrade+Drupal+Sites+to+3.0

... the upgrade script should not be trying to drop the civicrm_contact table AFAIK.

I think this came down to the fact that I did not have permission to DROP the old CiviCRM files. I never did get the "upgrade reset=1" or whatever to work. I ended up getting my ISP to set up a new database for CiviCRM, which I should have done in the first place. This worked, but now I can't find the CiviCRM Administration page to turn on CiviEvent, etc.

Are you still on CiviCRM 2.x, or did you upgrade to 3.0? (Please upgrade your forum information accordingly; knowing the exact CiviCRM version number is a great help to us.)
