Unable to complete form to add profiles...
November 12, 2009, 12:30:53 am
Weird issue with my particular installation - can't replicate it on demo, and it used to work fine -

When creating new profiles or custom data groups I am unable to enter anything into the "New CiviCRM Profile" form (or data group form)

The form loads fine, but it is as if it is in read only mode - can't type anything into the fields.

On existing profiles I can open to edit settings or fields, and change any existing entries, but not add anything even to existing fields - for instance I can't add any pre or post field instructions, but I can change the field name.

We can add activities, contacts and so on; add activity types and apparently everything else other than custom fields and profiles.

This has me stumped. As I'm against a deadline I could be panicking and missing the obvious!

I've upgraded to 3.0.2, though this happened before the upgrade

Resources URL looks good
Drupal caches cleared
Drupal sessions table truncated

I suspect a data problem as files are all box-fresh (including Drupal 6.14)

Any ideas for next steps would be much appreciated..

Try deleting the templates cache (usually sites/all/default/files/civicrm/templates_c and all it's subdirectories).

Thanks... though that doesn't seem to have done the trick...

Make sure you don't have any older copies of the codebase sitting under your modules folder (e.g. a backup of v2.x).

I'll be looking into this further over the week-end - sorry to be slow on replies and many thanks for keeping up the suggestions.

I've deleted templates cache and confirmed that I have no 'extra' civicrm folders under modules (old versions for instance)

I've installed a local version (using the same code and database) and the same happens locally.

I can successfully run a query - for example - 'update civicrm_custom_field set help_pre="my string" where id=73'.

I can also add a profile by inserting a row in the civicrm_uf_group table (using a mySQL Query Browser), and thence can add fields to the profile through the web interface....

Once point of interest - only two very recent records have timestamps

Could this be a side-effect of some problem with the WYSIWYG fields (pre / post help etc.). Might be worth going into Global Settings >> Site Preferences and changing the Editor to "Textarea" (which means just a plain text box).

Also would be good to visit the forms w/ FireFox and Firebug console enabled and see if any Jscript errors are being reported.

Problem remains whatever the wysiwyg/plain text is selected.

No errors reported on Firebug.

On profiles it is just the first part of the form that can't be entered - the advanced section accepts input!

Upgrade clears problem
November 29, 2009, 07:38:42 am
I've just upgraded my local copy to the latest alpha, and all is now cleared.

I can limp along with directly inserting / editing the database tables until I'm comfortable that the latest version is stable...

Or is it possible to 're-upgrade' the current version!

Don't really understand what is going on in your site :-( I don't think we have any other reports of behavior like this??
Maybe limping along is best for now ??
