Just the households, please.
November 12, 2009, 01:51:20 pm
Hello everyone,

I need what I think is a simple search -- simple for somebody familiar with the CiviCRM data structure, of course. I want a custom search that takes any group of individuals and returns the households associated with those individuals. That's all.

Say I have a group called "1000 people". From those thousand people, I want the households they are a part of. That might return 250 records where individuals are, in fact, part of a household. From those 250, I can print mailing labels, assign a tag . . . whatever.  But I want the households they are a part of.

Can you help?

Have you already looked at and rejected the option of just doing the mailing labels to the individuals and using the option to 'combine people at same address' or whatever it is called at the label making stage?

I've rejected it partly because my customer wants to order Christmas cards for his constituents. Some are to be signed, and some not. Some go to households, and some to individuals. Every type is assigned groups, but you can search for households based on individuals in certain groups. It's kind of annoying actually. If there was some way to tag or assign the same group to the household record as well, we'd be pretty much done, but I don't know how to do that. Sadly, a MySQL master I am not.  ???

as mentioned on irc might be better off asking someone from the civicrm professional list to build this search for you
