different membership status rules for different membership types
November 15, 2009, 11:38:45 am
Do you know if any thought  has been given by anyone yet to enabling different membership status rules to be created for different membership types ie so Membership Type A can have a Grace of 1 month, and Type B can have Grace = 3 months etc?

As far as i can tell there is only one variation of Status+rules possible - and while we can add more statuses and edit the rules, the one set apply to all membership types

yes

i think we will need to "extend" the schema to make the status rules apply to specific membership types

I've run into a use case where this would be very, very useful. I'm not sure if we have budget to really dig in and code this solution ourselves, but we would be interested in contributing to a solution.

I would also add that it would seem to make sense to have memberships that only certain contact types can have. For example, if you offer "organizational membership" an individual should not be able to buy it for herself.  Another example would be if you have a student subtype, and a parent subtype, you might have different membership, IE parent can join PTA, but student cannot.
