Register multiple participants all at once
November 15, 2009, 06:24:52 pm
I just discovered the new multiple-registration feature that will be in 3.1 (http://issues.civicrm.org/jira/browse/CRM-5289) and read the discussion that prompted it (http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,8024).

I would be tremendously interested in taking this one step further.  If the event is set up to allow multiple registrations with the same email, it would be great if all the registrations could be created all at once.  The total price would be the number of participants in the drop-down times the selection in the price set.  And the user would not have to worry about entering names or emails on additional pages for the additional participants.

I imagine a checkbox on the Online Registration tab for "Allow multiple registrations all at once?" below and inset from the "Allow multiple registrations from the same email address?" checkbox.

The point to this would be the use-case of selling tickets to events where the social norm is that you do not need to give the names or email addresses of your guests.  Like every theatre and movie box office you know.

We would interested in sponsoring a change like this for future versions of civiEvents, but I have no idea what that means, exactly.  I have been in discussion with the folks from webaccess to do some customization that would give us similar functionality, but the changes going into 3.1 seem to take us halfway there already.

Anyone else out there interested in this?

Someone want to explain to me what sponsoring an improvement actually entails?

1. in general please avoid posting the same topic in multiple areas

2. check:

http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRM/Consulting+Services+Agreement

3. considering we are just releasing 3.1, i suspect any additional changes will make it into 3.2 at the earliest. Depending on your timing/needs, you might want to get webaccess to do the work. if more widely applicable we will include it in a future release

1. Sorry.  Reply to other thread was only 1/2 on topic (any other interest).

2. Thanks.

3. I have no expectations of anything else happening in 3.1.  But I'd sleep better if patches I were using were on track to eventually be included in an official release.

I'm completely new to this process:  First I pay someone to make and submit patches.  But then what else can/should I/anyone do to ensure these changes are acceptable to the community and can maybe/someday be included in a future release?
