Active X warning
November 16, 2009, 09:07:05 am
I'm working with someone on their site, and at work they have ActiveX blocked on their browser.

As such, they're getting an Active X warning and then some items on the page aren't loading (specifically, on the CiviCRM pages where this error comes up, their side menus for their Drupal site don't load).

They're worried that other people may run into the same issue if they're trying to sign up from their workplace.

They're looking at the site in IE7.

I turned off mine in IE8 and everything seemed to look fine, I just got an error about something not loading.

What item(s) are using ActiveX on the pages and is it going to cause any problems with things not working (other than the menu not showing in IE7).

CiviCRM does not use "Active X" components (this is Microsoft technology). However, my understanding is that older versions of IE7 and earlier have Active X warnings pop-up when there is "interactive content" of various types on a web page (Flash movies, etc.) - I think basically any embedded content that requires some other application to render it.

Some of our pages use "Ajax" (javascript which calls back to the webserver to get updates for the page without reloading the entire page). The Quick Contact search block is an example of this. However, I haven't seen any reports of these widgets triggering Active X warnings.

No idea what might be triggering it on this site's pages ??? Best bet is to do some "googling".... here's one article with some possibly relevant info:
