Hosting Service Recommendation for CiviCRM?
September 03, 2007, 07:14:19 pm
For about ten years I have designed and maintained the website for an organic farming association.

Now folks would like to move everything to an open-source content management system with constituent relationship management and we have been looking at Drupal and CiviCRM.

Our current site is hosted on a Windows IIS server and the hosting service has a fairly straightforward interface, is rock-solid as far up-time is concerned and has great customer support. I have to say that my experience with PHP, Drupal and CiviCRM is slight, but I'm a willing learner.

I was able to get Drupal working on our current IIS server (testing, current site is not Drupal), but I discovered that CiviCRM needs and Apache environment (use on IIS server is just now being experimented with), and apparently a specialized Apache environment at that.

So, my question is:

Can anyone recommend a hosting service that has the requisite collection of components needed to run Drupal with the CiviCRM module, is stable (won't go off line too often and won't fold up shop) and has decent customer support?

I've looked at the post
http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,876.0.html
"Hosting Environments for CiviCRM"

And am in in correspondence with the UAS coop about having them serve us with their CiviMail back-end

BUT I NEED A SERVER TO HOST OUR SITE!

I appreciate your assistance.

Check:

http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRM/Hosting+provider+information

Please update as you find stuff with any of those providers.

Note that CiviCRM does not need a special version of apache :). Apache is not required, but we do all of our development on apache, and do not do any testing on windows/IIS. This means that we do not know if it works well on IIS. I suspect a few folks out there have it running on IIS

Do you think it would be possible to add a child board on the forum for those people who have / are trying to get CiviCRM running on Windows / IIS?

This might enable the community to better support itself whilst none of the core developers are using this platform.
