Send an Email to contact gives 'You do not have permission to execute url' error
November 17, 2009, 10:24:16 am
Hello,

I'm using CiviCRM 3.0.2 and Joomla 1.5.15 and am getting "You do not have permission to execute this url." error page in the backend around 50% of the time I try and send an email to a contact (ie after I click send).

I wish I could be more specific about when the error occurs - in the last few hours of tests I've sent various combinations of plain text, html, templates, messages with and without tokens and different from addresses with no pattern for when it works or not that I can see.

For the first 45 mins it worked once in every dozen tests or so - for the next while it's failed only once in every dozen or so texts - I've no idea what could cause it to work intermittently, the server seems to be working fine.

Thanks,
Nic

Pretty weird. :-( Is this the only workflow where you get that error? Do the emails actually go through in both cases? Does it happen when you click Save and Send Test Email under Admin Civi >> Global Settings >> Outbound Mail settings?

Check the CiviCRM.log.* file  in <joomla_root>/media/civicrm/upload directory for clues... or you may need to add debug code (check w/ us on IRC).

Thanks for the reply - I didn't know where the log files were before, and that makes things clearer.. Looks like it could be my mistake or a problem with the mail server I was using.. when posting my first message I changed the SMTP server to a different machine. After this the error still came up a bit but the vast majority of emails got through. Looking now on the error logs there is one error message from the day it all kicked off (I'm guessing it would just give the error once and then not repeat it everytime the error appeared after that):
Quote
- Invalid response code received from SMTP (outbound mail) server while attempting to send email...

Since that night that error hasn't repeated with any of the send mail functions - and the emails have got through. Another administrator claimed she had got the error once more after sending lots of emails, but until I can repeat it myself, it seems fixed, or at least workable.  :-)
