I have suggestion for an additional Action on a page like this:

/civicrm/group/search?reset=1&force=1&context=smog&gid=XX

"Grant Membership"

Why is this an improvement, you ask?

Well, let's say some Contacts qualify for Membership.  The best way to organize the Contacts is by Group.  Maybe they belong in the Group because they attended an Event, or maybe they belong in a Group because they have a certain Address or Relationship?

These people, once assembled into a Group, are to be granted a Membership.   Currently, to be granted a Membership one must export the Group as a CSV, add several fields (Membership Type, Status, and Start Date) to the CSV, and then Import Members.

It would be way way easier to simply apply a Group Action to all Members of the group called "Grant Membership".

Then the user could select from three options: Membership Type, Date, Status.  And then everyone is granted the Membership appropriately.  There is no Export and re-Import of CiviCRM data via CSV to Grant Memberships.

I hope my suggestion makes sense.

Ok thanks, I'm glad you see a potential need for this too.

As for me coding this in CiviCRM, that's very unlikely -- coding CiviCRM usually makes me feel very sad and frustrated and generally results in failure.  I view this as a last resort.   

If the need for this on my part becomes great enough, I will pay $ to sponsor someone else to do this development.
