CiviCRm email - attaching PDFs

I have attached PDFs to CiviCrm group emails. For some reason the file changes when sent and people are unable to open it. Has anyone experienced this difficulty and/or know how to rectify the problem?

Can you do a mailing to a couple of accounts and see whether the received PDFs differ, or whether everybody receives the same bad PDF?

Have sent emails with PDF attachment to our entire database - the file changed to a DAt file which no-one could open ???

Are you sure that's on the sender side ? Looks like an exchange "improvment".

Are you sending the mail directly from the server or relaying through another mail server ?

Try to send that to a gmail/yahoo mail account and read it on the web interface, see if it's the same.

Dear cmdfa,

I notice you're on an old version of CiviCRM. Is an upgrade out of the question? The mail handling has improved markedly, particularly with versions 2.2 and 3.0.
