Migrating to Custom Contact Types
November 19, 2009, 08:40:02 am
Not sure if this is the right place for this question, but not sure where it should go. Am very excited about the upcoming Custom Contact Types feature in 3.1. Wondering how migration will work: will we be able to migrate existing Custom Groups down the type hierarchy (used to apply to Individual, now applies to SpecialIndividual), or will we have to start over and recreate them?

IMO, you will have to create new custom groups for the contact sub-types.

That's a bummer. Does anyone know when the expected arrival of 3.1 beta is? Will want to start working this out earlier rather than later.

if we have more folks testing the alpha releases, then a beta will be out sooner rather than later

you can help fix the "bummer, by writing code (or sponsoring/hiring someone to do so) that allows users to migrate custom groups to a more specific subtype
