Custom Fields for Organization - Edit from the FrontEnd (User) - HOW?
November 23, 2009, 11:44:04 am
Joomla v1.5.15 & CiviCRM v3.0.01

I have created a profile for the Custom Fields (no problem editing/viewing from the backend)

When I try and display them on the front-end (Menu type as "CiviCRM > Profile/Edit") - it provides an empty form (no fields) with the correct profile title.

Note: The UserAccount (front-end) has "Relationship" with View/Edit and "Is Current Employee" checked

PURPOSE: Association site...  The Organization record needs additional fields (Years in Business, # Employees...)

Profile "edit" in Joomla front-end will only work for Individual and general Contact fields, NOT for Organization fields. This is because we use the authenticated front-end user ID to link to the corresponding CiviCRM contact record (which will always be an Individual).

Any thoughts on how else I might satisfy the need to have an Individual update the Custom Fields on an Organization record (that they have an Edit Relationship with)?

I attempted to SYNC a User Account with an Organization record (via matching Email), but no luck...  I assume the SYNC is only valid for User Account & Individual/Contact records.

FYI... In another implementation (501C - we're supporting pro-bono), we have a need to where the Organization's Custom Fields need to be updated on a monthly basis (verifying availability of services).

Feedback greatly appreciated.

Not sure what is possible via joomla - or if this is what you are after but have you checked out these two options

- access the custom data via a profile for a Permissioned Relationship via Dashboard - http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,5699.0.html

or stoob's solution which enabled Org custom data fields to be exposed in a Members sign up form

BTW - any of the civiteam able to give a blank yes or no on whether either of those two above (tim's or stoob's) will survive an upgrade to 3.0 or should we expect problems?

Can't give blank yes, but the concepts and schema elements used haven't changed since 2.x (based on a quick scan). That said, there might be cleaner ways of doing this using hooks :-)

Thanks PeterD & Dave Greenberg...

I tried PeterD's suggestion (http://forum.civicrm.org/index.php/topic,5699.0.html), but no success.

The second option (http://wiki.civicrm.org/confluence/display/CRMDOC22/Enhance+Organizational+Membership+Functionality) was beyond me (I have no experience programming PHP).

... but, the NEED remains.
